Day 39 – Highs, Lows, and Everything In Between

Morning Wins
The day started on a high note. Physio done first thing — tick. Coaching call that set my head straight — tick. A short walk in early, water goals smashed (8.5 glasses by 3:30 pm, and yes, I nearly high-fived the fridge), and even protein made it into the mix — a bit slow, but we got there.

The Lego Miracle
Then came the miracle of miracles: both kids upstairs, playing Lego. Together. No fighting. Just five golden minutes of peace before the familiar cries of “she started it!” reminded me normal chaos had returned.

The GP Scare
I was feeling like maybe I’d finally turned a corner — then reality hit. I popped in for a routine blood test, and while I was there, I asked the nurse to take a look at my wound. She frowned. Called out a GP. She looked even more concerned. Suddenly, I was being told to head back to the hospital. My morning of progress felt like it shattered in an instant. One step forward, ten steps back.

Reflections on Recovery
But here’s what I’m slowly learning — recovery isn’t a straight line. It’s a rollercoaster. Fridge high-fives and Lego miracles one minute, gut-punch setbacks the next. And somehow, all of it belongs in the story.

Today had the highs, the lows, and everything in between. And if nothing else, it reminds me just how much the “normal” bits — the Lego, the water wins, even the protein scramble — matter more than I ever thought they would.
