Day 14: Scooters, Sisters & Superheroes: Lessons in Kindness

From Dingle detours to three-amigo chaos — a story of love, laughter, and the people who made me feel human again.

đź’– The Kindness Chronicles: Capes, Coffees & Crutches
When life literally knocks you off your feet (hello, ruptured Achilles 👋), you quickly discover the extraordinary kindness people are capable of. Over the past months, I’ve been surrounded by superheroes disguised as friends, family, and even strangers — with doses of laughter, chaos, and pastries included. Here’s to the people who made me laugh, made me feel human, and reminded me that I’m still me — just slightly slower and occasionally wearing one shoe.

🦸‍♀️ Sisters: Capes, Cars & Complete Holiday Disruption
To my sister who left her holiday in Dingle mid-trip, drove me straight to the hospital, and basically broke up our entire getaway — sainthood pending. And to the rest of my sisters, who dropped off dinners, took the kids to activities, helped my husband keep everything running, and somehow made changing grim dressings look easy — you’re absolute legends. Somehow, they juggled my chaos and kept me laughing through it all. Honestly, I think they secretly have capes tucked under their coats.

🧔‍♂️ The Husband Hero
My husband — patient, calm, slightly traumatised, but never giving up. From handling hospital drama and midnight crises to managing visitors, scooters, and endless “Can you just…” requests, he did it all. If endurance was an Olympic sport, he’d bring home the gold.

🧒 The Little Helpers
My two amazing kids were my mini nurses, therapists, and comedians rolled into one. They survived my mood swings, offered cuddles, helped with cups of tea, and kept the house lively — reminding me that laughter is the best medicine (besides physio).

👵 The Parent Patrol
Mum and Dad — quietly heroic as ever. They popped in with dinners, offered calm when I was stressed, and reminded me I’d get through this — all while keeping my husband (mostly) sane.

đź‘ The Three Amigos
Ah, my three amigos. They didn’t see the crutches or the limp — they saw me. They made me laugh until I nearly cried, used my scooter like it was a race car, and turned my kitchen into a classroom full of mischievous kids. Pure chaos, pure joy, pure therapy.

🏥 Hospital Heroes & Physio Ninjas
To the incredible hospital staff — consultants, nurses, and receptionists at the Blue Clinic — you made every appointment feel calm, human, and hopeful. To my physios, Darren and Craig — absolute legends. You motivated me, pushed me, and reminded me that progress comes in small steps (even when I wanted to take shortcuts). I couldn’t have done it without your expertise, humour, and relentless encouragement.

🌸 Lifelong Buddies & The Flower Drop Squad
To the friends who dropped off bouquets, came for coffees, or whisked me off to appointments — I’ll never forget it. They didn’t just see the crutches; they saw me. From life long primary school besties to college friends, they reminded me that friendship, once planted, just keeps blooming 🌼.

🏫 The School Crew
To the amazing staff at my school — your messages, texts, and cards kept me smiling. And to the GAA team, bearing Sudoku puzzles, sweets, flowers, and “hydration” bottles 🍷 — your thoughtfulness lifted my spirits more than you know.

đź’« Closing Thoughts
This journey has been humbling, hilarious, and heartwarming. Kindness is contagious — from a coffee, a flower, a ride, or a laugh. Takeaway: Be someone’s Darren or Craig. Be someone’s flower-drop friend, hospital-run sister, or pastry-delivering buddy. One day, it might be you in the moon boot — and trust me, you’ll never forget the people who make you feel like you again. ❤️
